Welcome to the first ESWA Congress!

The last time that sex workers from such diverse countries came together was in 2005. That time together resulted in the founding of our organisation called ICRSE and which, at this founding Congress, will officially become an association known as ESWA. This meeting comes at a time of political, economic and social upheaval, especially for sex workers. We continue to witness attempts to criminalise us in Europe, we battle against austerity and discrimination that drives us further into poverty, and at the same time, we have hope thanks to Belgium, while we hear the sound of war drums in the background. That is why coming together now is vitally important for the future of our lives.

At the Congress, you will find three days of sessions based on the thematic axes on which we focus as an organisation. These sessions have been proposed by different members; we are sure they will prove to be a powerful way to connect, learn and share experiences and knowledge together.

At this Congress, we will hold the General Assembly, where you will have the opportunity to participate in building the organisation in its new phase. During the Assembly, we will proudly introduce the new members of the Board of Directors that you have recently elected.

It is a pleasure for the ESWA team and myself to welcome you, and to work each day for our members and for the sex workers’; rights movement.
